Hospice Maui Medical Director – January 2019

Hospice Maui is seeking a physician who is board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine or willing to get Hospice Medical Director Certification through in-house training.

Hospice Maui is a 40-year-old community-based non-profit “legacy” hospice organization serving the island of Maui (population ~ 160,000), and one of ten hospices in the state. We have a census in the 80’s (20 in nursing facilities), a state-of-the-art five-bed inpatient facility, and our patient satisfaction numbers are consistently the highest in the state.

We are looking for a sincere, strongly team-oriented physician whose clinical competency is matched with deep compassion, cultural sensitivity, and excellent communication skills. Hospice Maui views the care of those patients we serve as a “sacred trust”, and as such requires each team member, and the physician leader of that team, to take this level of seriousness to heart every day.

The job duties fully encompass what the COP’s require. In addition, our physician currently provides physician support to the hospital’s palliative care team, participates with our Outreach Team’s events and activities, and is an integral member of Hospice Maui’s Leadership Team. A Hawaii license and privileges at our local hospital will be required.

More about Hospice Maui: For 40 years, physicians and families on Maui have entrusted Hospice Maui with the care of their patients and loved ones. We provide quality, compassionate hospice care to maximize the comfort and dignity of those in their last months or weeks of life, in whatever setting they reside. We believe that each of us deserves to be cared for by those who understand the emotional and spiritual challenges that dying can bring; that we are each entitled to live our last months, weeks, or days in the setting of our choice, treated according to our beliefs and values. Unlike other forms of care that focus only on the patient’s physical needs, Hospice Maui also provides emotional and spiritual support for the patient and loved ones, as well as bereavement support for an entire year after the death.
