About The Workshop
The “Our Care, Our Choice Act” takes effect January 1, 2019 in Hawaii. The purpose of this workshop is to help health providers comply with requirements of the law and to provide an immediate, skillful and compassionate response to any patient inquiries they may receive. The workshop will address person-centered care and end-of- life discussions as recommended by the American Medical Association, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American College of Physicians and other specialty societies.
Objectives
As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe critical components of Hawaii Law Act 002 (2018), the “Our Care, Our Choice Act”, including certification requirements by health providers.
- Conduct conversations that thoughtfully and compassionately explore end-of-life concerns, goals and options with people who have serious illness.
- Access resources and information related to end-of-life care options, including resources specific to Act 002 implementation.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is directed to physicians, advanced practice nurse, nurses, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and pharmacists within The Queen’s Health System, with emphasis on those who care for patients with serious chronic conditions.
