The session is for the public and all are welcome. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nDr. Daniel Fischberg has served as the Medical Director of the Pain and Palliative Care Department at The Queen’s Medical Center for more than 20 years and is Chief of the Division of Palliative Medicine and Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine.  \n\n\n\nAnita Jewell\, RN.  Anita Jewell’s nursing career spans 40+ years. In 1984 a 2-week vacation in Hawaiʻi turned into a permanent move after acquiring a nursing position at the Queen’s Medical Center. After 15 years at QMC’s Cardiovascular ICU\, she spent the next 20 years navigating the realms of Case Management\, Administration and Population Management. The combination of clinical and administrative experiences has led to unique opportunities to participate in community projects dealing with population health\, health management\, access to care and transitions of care. \n\n\n\nDiane DeBernardo\, APRN \n\n\n\nCecilia Ortiz\, LSCW \n\n\n\nHope Young is the Advance Care Planning Coordinator for Kōkua Mau. Hope joined Kōkua Mau in 2017 and is a founding member of the Palliative Care Awareness Committee\, established in 2021. She provides education and awareness about conversations and documentation about what matters most. Hope has worked with seniors and their loved ones in various capacities throughout her career and enjoys being out in the community.  \n\n\n\nVideo: a siblings experience with Palliative Care for their mother.

Navigating care required creative problem-solving and full engagement of our interdisciplinary team to ensure compassionate\, coordinated support for both the patient and her family. \n\n\n\nOur exciting local bi-monthly networking and clinical education opportunity on zoom. Come participate in an interactive interdisciplinary story from the cutting edge of hospice and palliative care and mingle with colleagues from all over the islands on zoom. All are welcome. Please feel free to share with others and ask them to register. \n\n\n\nThis time of year is especially difficult for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. For many there is not a “Happy Holidays”\, “Happy Thanksgiving”\, “Merry Christmas”\, or a “Happy Hanukkah”. Often there is sadness\, wanting to be alone\, and to be separate from others who don’t understand our grief. There is often a void and deep longing for those who have died or who we have lost to an illness such as dementia.  \n\n\n\nThe feelings that arise are sometimes complex and unpredictable and at the same time uniquely our own. One certainly does not want to “celebrate” the holidays without their loved one. Things just aren’t the same anymore. You are not alone. Others are also experiencing grief and loss. It includes: \n\n\n\n\nAn Introduction to Palliative Care\n\n\n\nInterpreting Skills Applied to Palliative Care\n\n\n\nThe Vocabulary of Palliative Care\n\n\n\nSight Translation in Palliative Care\n\n\n\nThe Impact of Emotion and Belief on Interpreting\n\n\n\n7 CEUs (details in flyer)\n\n\n\n\nThis multimedia\, interactive training includes videos\, PowerPoint presentations\, and practice of interpreting and sight translation. Bilingual medical glossaries and practice activities are provided in Cantonese/traditional Chinese\, Ilocano\, Japanese\, Korean\, Mandarin/simplified Chinese\, Russian\, Spanish\, Tagalog\, and Vietnamese. \n\n\n\nWho is teaching?  Cindy Roat is an international consultant and trainer on language access in health care with 30+ years’ experience in the healthcare interpreting field. With an MPH in International Health Services\, Cindy has made significant contributions to the language access field in the areas of training\, program development\, policy formulation\, advocacy and organizational outreach. Her written works are key resources for interpreters\, providers and administrators alike. Cindy was the principal author of the original Bridging the Gap\, and her most recent book\, Healthcare Interpreting in Small Bites\, is being used as an ancillary text at many basic training programs. Cindy is a founder and current board member of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC)\, as well as being known nationally as an engaging speaker\, a knowledgeable resource\, and an energetic advocate for language access in general. \n\n\n\n\nDownload the flyer to register and more details\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Online through Zoom \n\n\n\nCost: $50 + credit card processing fees. Certificates of Attendance will be awarded to all who arrive on time and stay for the entire workshop. \n\n\n\nThis is the first time we offer this in-person training in Hawaiʻi so please join us and tell your colleagues.
