DESCRIPTION:Chevra Kadisha Hawaii and Kōkua Mau invite you to Nechama: the Jewish Path of Comfort at the End of Life. Zoom details in our flyer. \n\n\n\nThere is a Jewish understanding that runs deeper than religious belief\, a guide for both the dying and the living. The annual ceremonial cycle includes a collective life review in recognition of personal mortality\, remembrance of ancestors and comfort for mourners.  Although there are many different ways to interpret and express our Jewish identity\, it supports us during times of transition. \n\n\n\nPlease join us for a webinar with Holly Blue Hawkins a Natural Deathcare advocate\, educator\, community organizer\, cemeterian\, author and poet who provides education and training to both Jewish and non-Jewish audiences. \n\n\n\nHolly Blue is a Natural Deathcare advocate\, educator\, community organizer\, cemeterian\, author and poet. In 2022 she co-created and launched two twelve-module courses on the subject of Natural Burial: in partnership with Lee Webster The Green Burial Master Class; and with David Zinner Jewish And Green: Cemetery Management For The 21st Century. As Gamliel Institute graduate and retired faculty\, Final Passages graduate\, member of the Conservation Burial Alliance\, Rosha Chevra Kadisha (Head of Jewish Burial Society)\, past member of the Board of Trustees of the Funeral Consumers Alliance of California and independent consultant. \n\n\n\nWith over 40 years of experience in end-of-life subjects\, Holly Blue provides education and training to both Jewish and secular audiences. She has visited countless natural burial sites from England to Hawaiʻi\, presented at international conferences\, trained home funeral guides\, consulted with cemetery management and mortuary personnel\, taught community college extension courses and is a passionate advocate for environmentally sustainable and culturally-sensitive burial practices.

DESCRIPTION:Compassionate Care and Evidence-Based Practice: Is it possible for them to co-exist?\n\n\n\nPlease join us on Thursday 2/23 for a presentation by Steven Ito our own Dr. Pat Nishimoto. \n\n\n\nSteven Ito\, FNP-c\, CEO Ohana Pacific Medical\, will be sharing about their innovative practice that combines home visits and a kupuna health clinic. They were using telehealth and telemonitoring before the pandemic and work with all health plans to address isolation\, lack of transportation and difficulties in accessing medical resources. Steven’s training in Family Medicine and clinical experiences in the Urgent Care setting led to his passion in specializing in Home Visit Based Programs for Kupuna.  To learn more visit www.ohanapacificmedical.org \n\n\n\nDr. Pat Nishimoto\, Oncology Nurse Specialist at Tripler for many decades and recently (kinda) retired. \n\n\n\nEBP has come to dominate in clinical practice – seeing research evidence as knowledge while silencing other conceptions of knowledge!  \n\n\n\n\nWhat happens when there is no known research on alleviating pain experience of a patient and he/she asks you about complementary medicine? \n\n\n\nWhat happens when we do not believe the patient’s story because it does not fit in an EBP frame of knowledge? Do they become invisible because we invalidate their experience? \n\n\n\n\nTo get ready for this interesting topic\, here is an updated lit review \n\n\n\nhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9116004/pdf/12904_2022_Article_942.pdf \n\n\n\nRegister in advance for the monthly meeting.
