There is often a void and deep longing for those who have died or who we have lost to an illness such as dementia.  \n\n\n\nThe feelings that arise are sometimes complex and unpredictable and at the same time uniquely our own. One certainly does not want to “celebrate” the holidays without their loved one. Things just aren’t the same anymore. You are not alone. Others are also experiencing grief and loss. With an MPH in International Health Services\, Cindy has made significant contributions to the language access field in the areas of training\, program development\, policy formulation\, advocacy and organizational outreach. Her written works are key resources for interpreters\, providers and administrators alike. Cindy was the principal author of the original Bridging the Gap\, and her most recent book\, Healthcare Interpreting in Small Bites\, is being used as an ancillary text at many basic training programs. This one-day in-person workshop is for you. SUMMARY:Kōkua Mau Meeting January 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first Kōkua Mau meeting of 2026. We will be giving an update on the reintroduction of the Uniform Healthcare Decisions Act.  \n\n\n\nWe are very pleased to be joined by Jennifer Moore Ballentine who has been studying this law for several years and is a national expert on the topic. She will give an overview of the bill and areas of concern to help guide our local discussions. \n\n\n\nJennifer Moore Ballentine is CEO of the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California (CCCC). She is an educator\, consultant\, and advocate with more than 25 years’ experience and expertise in palliative care and hospice\, adult education\, healthcare ethics and policy. She is the former Executive Director of the California State University Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care and previously held leadership roles for Life Quality Institute\, The Denver Hospice\, and the Colorado Center for Hospice and Palliative Care. She currently serves\, with Jeannette\, on the national POLST Board of Directors.
