SUMMARY:Thur. Dec. 5 Kōkua Mau December Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The last Kōkua Mau meeting of the year will be a combination of a presentation and Holiday party on: \n\n\n\nThursday\, December 5. \n\n\n\nJoin us at our last Kōkua Mau meeting of 2019. \n\n\n\nOur meeting will include a discussion with Cortney Gusick of Pahiki Caskets\, a local eco-conscious alternative using reclaimed local wood. “Pahiki believes deeply in curbing the heavy carbon footprint of importing caskets by the thousands each year\, as well as providing a more culturally resonate option to care for the land in death as we do in life.” You can view a beautiful hand-crafted casket up close and learn about eco-friendly options made in Hawai‘i. \n\n\n\nBring a dish to share\, this is our last Kōkua Mau meeting to network and socialize before 2020. \n\n\n\nThur. December 5\, 20193pm-5pmHonpa Hongwanji Hawaii BetsuinMulti-purpose Room\, downstairs1727 Pali HighwayHonolulu\, HI 96813 \n\n\n\nPlease access to the temple campus is from driveway off Lusitana Street\, not the Pali Highway. \n\n\n\nThere is plenty of free parking all around the buildings on the campus. Map on our website. \n\n\n\nTake the first right on the Pali Highway after the merge with the H1 \nturn-off. Take a right on Lusitania and the driveway into the temple \ncampus is to your right. There is a second entrance on the makai side\, \nright after the bus stop\, if you missed it. \n\n\n\nWe are grateful for the temple to invite us and host our meetings.

SUMMARY:Oncology on Canvas 2020 Modified
DESCRIPTION:Update March 16\, 2020 \n\n\n\nAloha Nui Loa\, \n\n\n\nToday\, in the context of the Covid 19 crisis and the associated precautionary cancellation of many group events\, 2020 Oncology on Canvas (OOC) at Tripler will be changed. While we won’t be sharing our cancer experiences at OOC as we have in the past\, we’re going to keep the spirit of OOC alive. \n\n\n\nI’ll be passing out art supplies to patients who come to the clinic. \n\n\n\nAt your home\, you can create and share your cancer experiences by expressing your cancer journey through your artwork and sharing the accompanying story. It is with a heavy heart that we change our traditional 2020 OOC gathering and instead work at home. \n\n\n\n“Dr. Pat” \n\n\n\nOncology on Canvas – Now at your home!\n\n\n\nOur oncology journey has been a stressful experience that too often is difficult to put into words. OOC allows us to illustrate our cancer experiences in ways that are beyond language.\n\n\n\nIt can bridge the gap between the conscious and unconscious\, often providing a depth of clarity\, understanding\, and empathy that is otherwise difficult to achieve through words alone. And by writing a short paragraph about your painting it provides a way to share your voice.\n\n\n\nYour health is important to us BUT just as important is your ability to share your journey in art. So we will supply the art supplies for you to do OOC in your home. \n\n\n\nPlease take a photo of each of your completed paintings and send to ‘Dr. Pat’ (patricia.w.nishimoto.civ@mail.mil) along with the ‘story’ about your painting and how it expresses your journey. \n\n\n\nMahalo for your support and understanding as we keep the spirit of OOC alive. \n\n\n\nIt is this time of the year again and we will celebrate Oncology on \nCanvas! A time to get together and use art to express our unique \noncology journey. The most important is that you show up and use the art\n supplies creatively. If you can please call and register to help them \nmake sure there will be enough food and art supplies and all events\, but\n everyone is welcome\, registered or not. \n\n\n\nOncology on Canvas helps people living with cancer and those that love and care for them to cope with disease through art. \n\n\n\nNo previous art experience is needed\, there are no age restrictions and everyone is welcome!! \n\n\n\nTripler Army Medical Center \n\n\n\nFriday\, April 3 in person meeting CANCELLED & Saturday\, April 4 in person meeting CANCELLED
