Two of our own Kokua Mau members were recently elected to the Board of Directors of important national organizations.

Kenneth L. Zeri, RN, MS, president and chief professional officer of Hospice Hawaii, was elected to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) Board as a National Director.

Daniel Fischberg
M.D., Ph.D., medical director of the Pain and Palliative Care Department at The Queen’s Medical Center, was elected to the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) Board as Director at Large.

As one of the most respected leaders in Hawaii’s hospice and palliative care industry, Zeri has been instrumental in shaping palliative and end-of-life care in Hawaii.

Fischberg, who is board certified in the specialties of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Pain Medicine, was the first physician in Hawaii to be fellowship trained in Palliative Medicine, and has served at The Queen’s Medical Center as medical director for the largest hospital-based palliative care service in the Pacific since 2004. In the last several years, Zeri and Fischberg have collaborated on various hospice and palliative care programs, legislation and other initiatives.
