We would like to thank HMSA for sponsoring Dr. Volandes’ visit

Dr. Angelo Volandes and his colleagues from ACP Decisions ( have created a series of short (and some not so short) DVDs that help to explain important concepts in advance care planning including Tube Feeding, CPR, Advance Care Planning and care for people with Dementia.

These DVDs are designed to be used by providers to help explain these often misunderstood concepts to their patients. These are meant to enhance and supplement one-on-one conversations with providers not replace them.

Dr. Volandes will be in Hawai’i at the end of October and we hope that you will join us for a presentation about the project. If there is positive feedback, we will then be exploring how we can make these DVDs available for us in Hawai’i. Kaiser Permanente has already begun using the videos here in Hawai’i and Adventist Health has purchased them as well. HMSA is sponsoring this visit.

You can read more about the project and view a sample DVD at their website, including literature on the project as they already have 2 published articles on the efficacy of the randomized control trials.
